Cash scandal: Justice Yashwant Verma takes a big step, petition filed in Supreme Court
Justice Yashwant Verma petitioned the Supreme Court.
The sword of impeachment is hanging over Justice Yashwant Verma trapped in the cash scandal. It is believed that impeachment motion may be brought against him in the upcoming monsoon session. Earlier, Justice Yashwant Verma has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. In this petition, he has challenged the report of the in-house check panel in which he has been convicted. Not only this, he has also challenged the recommendation of impeachment of the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna.
What is this whole matter?
Let us tell you that this whole matter is related to a large amount of cash found at the residence of Justice Yashwant Verma. In fact, on the night of March 14-15, there was a fire in the government residence of the then Justice Verma of the Delhi High Court. The team, who arrived to extinguish the fire, found bundles of 500 rupees burnt from the store room of that house. There was a huge uproar over this matter. After this, the Supreme Court formed an in-house inquiry committee of three judges.
What was revealed in the investigation report?
A panel of three judges of the Supreme Court blamed Justice Verma and his family to “directly or indirectly” the statements of 55 witnesses, forensic reports and the statements of the fire brigade staff. The panel said that after the fire, the cash was removed overnight and the evidence was deliberately destroyed.
The then CJI recommended impeachment
On May 8, the report that was investigated by Justice Verma by the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna of the Supreme Court sent the President of India and the Prime Minister with recommendation of impeachment. However, Justice Yashwant Verma has now described it as a conspiracy, denying all these allegations and challenged in the Supreme Court.
