125 units of electricity in Bihar now free, know who will get benefit and how: Bihar-Free-Electricity-125-Units-2025
The Bihar government has made a historic announcement related to electricity for domestic consumers, giving great relief to the people of the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on the social media platform ‘X’ (East Twitter) on Tuesday that now all domestic consumers of the state will not have to pay any electricity bills up to 125 units every month. This facility will be applicable from 1 August 2025, that is, the benefit of the consumption bill of July will start getting its benefits.
First time in history – free electricity gift
This is the first time that such a large number of consumers are being given free electricity in Bihar. This step will directly benefit about 1 crore 67 lakh families. According to the Chief Minister, the state government was already providing electricity to the people at concessional rates, but now it has been decided to free it to 125 units.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote in his post
“We have always provided electricity to people at a cheaper rate, but now we have decided that 125 units of electricity will be given free to all domestic consumers.”
Proposal will be approved in special cabinet meeting
The state government is calling a special cabinet meeting on Friday to implement this scheme. This proposal is likely to be formally approved in this meeting. After getting approval from the cabinet, it will be implemented in the entire state and the Department of Energy has also started preparations for this.
After the announcement of this scheme, now the next question is how much rate will be taken from consumers on electricity consumption more than 125 units. Discussions at departmental level have started about this and clear guidelines will be prepared soon.
Solar energy will get a new dimension
The Chief Minister also informed that the scheme also includes a strategy to promote solar energy. Within the next three years, a solar plant (solar power plant) will be set up either on the roofs of their homes or at a public place near them.
This initiative will reduce the power dependence on the grid, on the other hand, the state will be able to produce additional solar energy up to 10,000 MW. This will cut the cost of electricity in a long time and will also benefit the environment.
Additional assistance to poor families
The Chief Minister clarified that the government will bear the entire expenses to set up a solar plant to the very poor families under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana. At the same time, other consumers will also be given financial support by the government in setting up the plant so that everyone can take advantage of this scheme.
Preparations for Energy Department started
After this announcement of the Chief Minister, the Department of Energy has actively started work towards the implementation of the scheme. Rapid work is being done on subjects such as technical process, verification of consumers, unit calculations, and setting up of solar plant.
This scheme will not only give direct economic relief to the general public, but will also prove to be a big step towards making the state’s energy structure more durable and self -reliant.
