Famous for the romantic drama film ‘Kadhal Kadhai’, Tamil filmmaker, cinematographer and actor Velu Prabhakaran died on Friday, 18 July in a private hospital in Chennai. He said goodbye to the world at the age of 68. His relatives have confirmed that he died due to prolonged illness. The filmmaker’s condition was very serious for the last few days and due to this he was admitted to the ICU. Velu ‘Nalaya Manithon’, ‘Sivan’ and ‘Putia Achi’ were famous in the South Film Industry for Jesse Movies.
When will Velu Prabhakaran be cremated?
Velu Prabhakaran’s body will be kept for public tribute at Valsavakkam in Chennai till Sunday evening on Saturday evening. Since the arrival of this news, the film industry has been mourning the demise of Velu Prabhakaran. His last rites will be performed on Sunday evening in the presence of his close family and friends at the Porur crematorium. The filmmaker was married to the first actress-director Jayadevi. Many years after separation, they again married at the age of 60. In 2017, she married actress Shirley Das, who starred in her 2009 film ‘Kadhal Kadhai’.
Velu Prabhakaran’s last film released in 2025
Velu started his film career as a cinematographer. In 1989, he stepped into direction with the film ‘Nalaya Manithon’. A year later, he directed its sequel ‘Adhishya Manithon’. After two consecutive flops such as ‘Asuran’ and ‘Rajali’, Velu began focusing on the direction of action films in the late 90s and early 2000s. In 2004, she began working on a film called ‘Kadhal Arangam’, with debutant Preity Rangayani and Sherly Das in the lead roles. In 2017, he directed his last directed film ‘Oru Iyakunarin Kadhal Diary’. Since 2019, Velu Prabhakaran was trying his hand in acting. He was seen in films like ‘Gangs of Madras’, ‘Cadever’, ‘Pizza 3: The Mummy’, ‘Red’, ‘Weapan’ and ‘Appu VI STD’. His last film was ‘Gajana’ which was released in 2025.
