In response, the US informed the World Trade Organization that US President Donald Trump has imposed these tariffs to accommodate the imports of these items, as they threaten the US national security.

WTO issued a message on the request of American delegation

The WTO’s message from July 17 said, “These action are not safety measures.” Accordingly, there is no basis for India’s proposal to suspend concessions or other obligations under the Security Agreement regarding these measures. ”This message was issued at the request of the US delegation. The US also said that India has not followed the obligations under the agreement on the security measures of the World Trade Organization. It said, “The US will not discuss Section 232 under the agreement, because we do not see tariffs as security measures.”

The message was also issued regarding steel and aluminum

A similar message was a broadcast to eaten India’s claim to call the American tariff on steel and aluminum on the laws of the World Trade Organization. The proposed suspension of notified concessions by India can be taken as an increase in tariffs on selected products in the US. Although India has not yet disclosed these items, in a similar step in 2019 it imposed counter -tariffs on 28 American products from almonds and apples to chemicals.
