According to the website of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), “You Nonimigant Status (U Visa) is given to the victims who have been victims of certain crimes and who have suffered mentally or physically abused.” The court documents told that many migrant used to contact Chandrakant Patel to register the name as the victim in the police report to apply for U visa. These reports showed that he was armed with armed robbery.

It is worth noting that Patel himself was also awarded U-Visa in 2023, the basis of which was an alleged armed robbery.
