The Indian Army is going to get the next consignment of the AK-203 assault rifle before August 15. Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) has spoken about delivery of about 7,000 rifles in the next two to three weeks. The special thing is that under these self -sufficient India, these rifles are being constructed in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The construction of a completely indigenous rifle is likely to begin here from December 2025.

According to officials, this supply of rifle on time is another important achievement in India’s defense construction sector. Rifles are being produced at the IRRPL plant at Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The AK-203 will become the major Assault Rifle of the Indian Army in the coming years. Within 10 years, there are plans to give more than 6 lakh AK-203 assault rifles to the Indian Army. These rifles are being constructed under a joint venture between India and Russia.

IRRPL’s statement

According to IRRPL officials, the production of assault rifle is completely on track. By the end of this year, the creation of the entire indigenous version of this rifle may begin. The construction of a full indigenous version of this rifle will begin from 31 December. After this, this rifle will be known as Lion. According to the report, the Indian Army is going to get a huge order of more than 6 lakh AK-203 Assault Rifles by December 2030. However, its deadline is till December 2032, but IRRPL can place a full order only 22 months in advance.

AK-203 Rifle’s specialty

The AK-203 rifle is the modern version of the Kalashnikov Rifle. It has better accuracy, better ergonomics and excellent adaptation capacity. It is suitable for altitude areas and anti-terrorism campaigns. Its range is up to 800 meters and is capable of firing 700 rounds in a minute. In July 2021, India signed a Rs 5,000 crore agreement with Russia for licensed production of these rifles, including the complete transfer of technology.
