Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, located about 78 km from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is considered to be the fourth Jyotirlinga. It is situated on the Om -shaped mountain on the banks of the Narmada River. The glory of this Jyotirlinga is found in the Puranas. In ancient times it has been the taphoomi of many sages. 1. Nandi idol of God is not towards Shivling: Often we have seen that Nandi’s soul is installed outside the gate in front of Shivalinga, but in front of Jyotirlinga, the main Shivalinga of Omkareshwar, Nandi is established on the other side, not Nandi. Due to this, it is believed that there will be a real Shivling on the side where Nandi is watching. But according to the investigation of the Department of Archeology, there is a confusion of being a Shivling on that side which is not right. In order to save the Shivling from invaders, the location of the establishment of Nandi would have been changed over time.
2. Temple is five storey: This temple was made five storeys during the Parmar period. At the bottom of this is Omkareshwar, above Mahakaleshwar, Siddheshwar above him, Gupteshwar on top of him and Dhwjeshwar at the top. It is very difficult to reach there. Therefore, most of the devotees go to see Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar.
3. Mahadev joins Aarti: There are three men in this temple area- Shivpuri, Vishnupuri and Brahmapuri. Aarti of Shivji’s three Prahar is performed here. It is said that Shiva himself is present at the time of Shayanarati in the morning, evening and night.
4. Shiv Parvati ji plays Chaupar: After the Aarti of the sleeping period, the chaupar is decorated here for Shiva-Parvati ji in the sleeping posture. It is believed that both Bholenath and mother Parvati come to play Chaupar. According to the priest Pandit Ramesh Chandra here, the gate of the Chaupar Dar Jamkar temple is done and after that locks are placed at the gate. During this time no one is allowed to go to the temple in night. The next day, when the doors of the temple are opened in Brahma Muhurta, the pieces and dice placed on the chaupar are scattered in such a way as if they are played. It is said that after visiting the three worlds, Shivji rests in the night after playing Chaucer here.
5. Aurangzeb saw his future: Somnath Shivalinga is installed in Omkareshwar region and in the middle of the mountain. Two black colored Shivling is installed here. These Shivling is called Shivalinga of Mama nephew. It is believed that the person stands in front of the maternal uncle here and knows his past, present and future. Also, in what form will someone take the next birth after death. To know the future, the Shivling has to be taken in both your arms by closing his eyes. When Aurangzeb came to know about this, he also created curiosity to know his future and next birth. When he came here, when he took the Shivling in his arms, he saw a pig. That is, he would indicate that he would become a pig in the next life. Knowing this, he was very angry and ordered to break the Shivling but no one could break him Shivling, then he was burnt to the temple area. Since then, the Shivling here looks very black.
