Theft of Active Telecom Gear At All-Time High

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) stated on Friday that there has been a significant increase in theft of active telecommunications equipment in the country, with these items being sold on various websites such as eBay and Alibaba. This trend is negatively impacting services for consumers. In a letter addressed to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the COAI highlighted that incidents of theft have multiplied since October 2023. The COAI, in correspondence with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), noted a manifold increase in such incidents from October 2023 onwards. The primary hardware targeted in these thefts includes Radio Remote Units (RRUs) and Baseband Units (BBUs).

Motorola May Launch Edge 50 Pro, Fusion In India

Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Motorola is set to host an event in India on April 3, as confirmed by the invite sent out by the handset maker. The invite promises a fusion of art and intelligence. With further details anticipated in a formal invitation from Motorola, it's likely that the company's upcoming smartphones will boast Pantone colour-themed designs and artificial intelligence features. During the Mobile World Congress, Motorola highlighted its collaboration with toughened glass manufacturer Corning, pledging to incorporate Corning's Gorilla Glass on all its smartphones. Given this emphasis, it wouldn't be surprising if the upcoming devices feature Gorilla Glass on both the front display and rear cover, providing enhanced protection.

CCI Finds Google's Play Store Billing System Unfair

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Friday (March 15) issued an order stating that Google's Users Choice Billing system (UCB) appears to be in violation of the Competition Act of 2002, the media has reported. The competition watchdog of India has initiated an investigation into Google's Users Choice Billing system around Play Store policies. The commission stated it has preliminary concerns that Google may have breached Sections 4(2)(a), 4(2)(b), and 4(2)(c) of the Act, prompting a thorough examination of the issue.
