‘Let farmers and farmer welfare be discussed’, Shivraj’s appeal amidst opposition uproar

New Delhi: During the monsoon session on Tuesday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan appealed to priority to farmers’ questions during the Question Hour. He made an emotional appeal to the opposition that he should not interrupt the discussion on farmers and village and poor. Shivraj said that today farmers’ day and 11 out of 20 questions are of farmers. He appealed to the opposition to let the farmers raise questions in the House. However, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm due to uproar by opposition MPs over the voter list revision and other issues in Bihar.
What did Shivraj say in Lok Sabha?
Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in his statement in the Lok Sabha, ‘Today is the day of farmers, the day of the village. 11 out of 20 questions are from farmers. I pray to the opposition to let farmers and farmer welfare be discussed. Honorable President, my prayer is that today, 11 out of 20 questions in the Question Hour are from farmers, poor and villages. Therefore, I request the opposition to allow the farmers’ questions to rise. We are ready to answer. We will not only answer the questions of honorable MPs, but through the House, we also want to keep the government’s plans among the farmers.
‘Last let the farming be discussed’
Shivraj said, ‘Honorable President (Om Birla), today is the day of farmers. At least let the farming be discussed, let the farmers be discussed, the village and poor should be discussed. I pray for.’ Chauhan insisted that the government is ready to discuss the issues of farmers and wants to deliver its plans to the farmers through the House. But opposition MPs raised loud slogans in Bihar raising issues like Voter List Revision and Special Intensive Review (SIR). Due to the uproar, the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had to be postponed by 2 pm.
