People on the streets in Ukraine against Jailonsci, fierce slogans
People have seen anger against Jailonsky’s new move in Ukraine.
Kyiv: Thousands of people took to the streets on Tuesday in Ukraine’s capital Kiev and several other cities. These people were demanding President Volodimir Jailonsci to cancel a new law, which is considered to be weakening anti -corruption institutions. This was the first major demonstration against the government amid the 3 -year war with Russia. Explain that the Ukraine’s Parliament has recently passed a law, under which monitoring will be increased on 2 major anti-corruption institutions, National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutors Office (SAPO).
Jailonski has signed the law
Critics say that this law will take away the freedom of these institutions and the President will give more control over the investigation to people close to Jailonsky. According to the website of Parliament late on Tuesday night, Jailonski signed this law. Explain that fighting corruption is very important for Ukraine, as it is necessary to join the European Union and to maintain the help of billions of dollars from Western countries. There is anger among people in Ukraine due to passing this law. Many people say that this law is more morally a shock than Russia’s drone and missile attacks.
Both institutions issued joint statement
Under the new law, Prosecutors General will get more strength on the investigation and case of NABU and SAPO. The two institutions said in a joint statement, “If this law came into force, the head of SAPO will remain only named, and NABU will lose its freedom and become part of the Prosecutor General’s office.” The European Union’s Extension Commissioner Marta Kos expressed concern over this law. He wrote on X, ‘This step is backwards for Ukraine. Independent institutions like NABU and SAPO are very important for Ukraine’s way of joining EU. The rule of law is at the center of the terms of joining the EU.

Slogans shouted during the demonstration
The people involved in the demonstration were seen shouting slogans against Jailonsky and his move. People’s anger was clearly revealed through his performance. Some believed that the Ukraine government was engaged in saving its close ones instead of fighting corruption. Blogger and activist Ihor Lachekov appealed to the people to join the demonstration. He said, ‘Corruption is a problem in every country, and it should always be stopped. Ukraine has very few resources than Russia. If we misuse them or let them go into the thieves’ pockets, then our hopes of victory will be reduced. All our resources should be used in war.
Transparency International also criticized
The Transparency International Branch of Ukraine also criticized this law. The organization demanded Jailonsky to veto the law, otherwise ‘they will share the responsibility of breaking the anti -corruption structure with Parliament. At the same time, a soldier named Oleh Simoroz, who was involved in the demonstration, is on a wheelchair after being injured in 2022, said, ‘Those who vowed to protect the law and the constitution are engaged in saving their close ones, even if it is at the cost of Ukrainian democracy. The President is using his strength to control criminal cases related to his friends.
This performance is not good news for Jailonsky
Jailonski’s office did not comment on it. Last week, the President reshuffled his war -time cabinet, which is considered to be an attempt to give more strength to those close to him. On Monday, Ukraine’s security agency detained 2 NABU officials on suspicion of relationship with Russia and searched other employees. Performance in Ukraine during the war has mostly been for the release or missing people. But there is no good news for Jailonsci, between the rust with Russia, and that too amidst the war with Russia. (AP)
