Home Ministry is shifting to new building
New Delhi: Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has started vacating the North Block Headquarters in Raisina Hills and is now shifting to a newly constructed building on the duty path near India Gate, CCS-3. This shifting is a part of the ambitious Central Vista project of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, which aims to give a new form to the capital site of the capital.
According to sources, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, some Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary level officials have already shifted to CCS-3 (CCS-3) building with their employees. The remaining officers and employees will also complete the process in the next few days. Although the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not yet shifted, the process in this regard is also going on. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been allotted around 350 rooms in the new building.
The headquarters of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been for 90 years
The North Block is a magnificent building made of red sandstone, it has been the headquarters of the Ministry of Home Affairs for nearly 90 years. The building designed by British architect Herbert Baker was also part of the South Block as well as Parliament House and several bungalows, which were built under the overall plan of New Delhi in collaboration with Edwin Lutyens.
Plan to convert empty buildings into a huge museum
After the new buildings are ready under the Central Vista Scheme, the Prime Minister’s Office and the same buildings with major offices like Home, Finance, Defense and Foreign Ministry- North Block and South Blocks will be completely empty. The government plans to convert these vacant buildings into a huge museum, named ‘Yuga Yugin Bharat’. It will be one of the world’s largest museums with an area of 1.55 million square meters and 950 rooms.
Central Secretariat Complex proposal
As part of the Central Vista Project, the Center proposed 10 office buildings and a Central Secretariat Complex of a conference center on the duty path to accommodate all ministries. The first three office buildings have been constructed.
According to the government order, the CCS-3 building will have the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Rural Development and Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT).
