New Delhi: Discussion in political circles is in full swing to complete the 5 -year term of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Karnataka. Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah and his deputy CM DK Shivkumar have once again reached Delhi. The question is whether Siddaramaiah will complete his term or DK Shivkumar will get a chance? This question is echoing in the politics of Karnataka. Siddaramaiah is on the verge of breaking the record of Devraj Urs, the longest Chief Minister of Karnataka in his second term. Urs served as Chief Minister for 7.6 years (2,792 days). Siddaramaiah can break this record by 6 January 2026.

Both leaders can meet Rahul Gandhi

It is being speculated that there is an alleged formula of power sharing in the Congress, under which DK Shivkumar can be made the Chief Minister after two and a half years. However, the Congress has not officially confirmed this formula. Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar reached Delhi on Thursday. This is his third visit to Delhi since June. This time he will participate in the ‘Participation Justice Conference’ of AICC’s backward class wing. Congress sources say that during this time the two leaders can meet the top leadership of the party, especially Rahul Gandhi. Siddaramaiah did not get time to meet Rahul Gandhi in the last Delhi tour.

Siddaramaiah won in 2023

The political atmosphere in Karnataka is tense. Supporters of Siddaramaiah want him to complete a 5 -year term. On the other hand, Shivkumar’s supporters are demanding the Chief Minister’s chair for him. After the Congress victory in the 2023 assembly elections, there was a tough fight between the two leaders for the post of CM. The Congress high command then resolved the matter by making Shivkumar the deputy CM and the state president. At that time there were some reports that the formula of power partnership has been fixed for two and a half years, but the party did not confirm this.

DK Shivkumar is quietly strengthening his claim.

‘I am the CM of Karnataka, there is no vacancy’

Siddaramaiah recently said in Delhi, ‘I am the Chief Minister of Karnataka. There is no vacancy. He also said that the high command’s decision would be final. At the same time, Shivkumar responded carefully and said, ‘What the Chief Minister says is the last. I am loyal to the party and leadership. The party high command has instructed both the camps to remain silent, after which no MLA is openly making a statement. Congress sources say that it will not be easy to remove Siddaramaiah. He is the only Chief Minister of OBC (Other Backward Classes) of Congress in Karnataka and has a strong hold in minorities, backward classes, and Dalit communities.

Shivkumar is quietly strengthening the claim

OBC votes are important in the elections to be held in Bihar, so rarely take the risk of removing the party Siddaramaiah. Siddaramaiah has recently been made a member of the AICC’s OBC Advisory Council, whose first meeting was held under his chairmanship. Shivkumar, on the other hand, is a big leader of the Vokkaliga community and his role in the victory of the Congress in the old Mysore region was important. He is not saying anything openly, but his strategy and visit to monasteries show that he is quietly strengthening his claim.

The party high command is silent

A senior Congress leader said, ‘Shivkumar is waiting for his turn with patience. He wants to take advantage of loyalty to the party and Gandhi family. The Congress government in Karnataka will complete two and a half years in November. If the power partnership formula is correct, Siddaramaiah can break the record by January 2026 and then Shivkumar can get a chance. However, at the moment the party high command is keeping silence on the issue. At the moment, you have to wait to see how the Congress’s politics takes a turn in Karnataka. (PTI)
