Railways’ big action, closed 2.5 crore IRCTC account, know the reason

Indian Railways, taking major action, has closed 2.5 crore IRCTC accounts. This information has been given by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to Sasand. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the monsoon session, the Railway Minister also informed the House about the immediate new rules. The government has taken this step to prevent fake ticket booking by brokers so that common passengers can get better travel experience.
2.5 crore account closed
The Union Railway Minister said that IRCTC has blocked around 2.5 crore user IDs to prevent disturbances and misuse in ticket booking systems. In the information given to the House, the Union Minister said that during the data analysis, it was found that crores of user IDs have been made using fake information, after which action has been taken on them. This action has been taken to bring transparency in Tatkal ticket booking, so that the common passengers cannot be inconvenienced.
New rule for immediate
Railways have started OTP based verification, changing the rules of Tatkal ticket booking. Also, ticket booking can be done only through Aadhaar Linked IRCTC account. With this, fake Tatkal tickets will be banned. This new rule of Tatkal ticket booking has been implemented from 1 July 2025. Giving information in the House, the Railway Minister said that 89% of the tickets are now booked online in Indian Railways. With the implementation of the new rule, only Aadhaar verified users in the IRCTC website and app will now be able to book tickets.
The Railway Minister said that in view of the convenience of the passengers, the offline ticket booking counter (PRS) has also been provided with online or digital payment facility. Rail passengers can now book tickets from offline channels through UPI. Also, waiting tickets are also being monitored continuously in view of the crowd in the train. When the waiting list is long, additional coaches are added to the train or the option of the vaccine train and upgradation scheme is made available to the passengers.
