Trees uprooted by rain and rain in Kerala

Normal life has been disturbed due to heavy rains in Kerala. Orange alert has been issued by the administration in seven districts and people have been asked to be vigilant. It has been raining heavy since Friday night. This rain has caused widespread damage to various parts of Kerala and has increased the water level of rivers and dams, due to which IMD has issued an orange alert in seven districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday released ‘Orange Alert’ for three hours in the morning in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

‘Orange Alert’ indicates ‘very heavy rain’ between 11 cm to 20 cm a day. Heavy rains and strong winds in various parts of Kozhikode uprooted trees and damaged many houses and vehicles. This caused electrical wires and pillars to disrupt the power supply. Similar incidents also came to light from Kottayam and Kannur districts.

Aliar dam gates opened

The shutters of Banasur Sagar in Wayanad and Aliyar Dam in Palakkad districts have been opened and people living in low -lying areas of these reservoirs have been instructed to be vigilant. A 78 -year -old man died of a tree falling at his house in Kannur district of Kerala. Police said on Saturday that the incident took place at 2 am when Chandran was sleeping inside his house in Thetumal, Kutuparamba. The tree collided with the house and fell directly on them. Police said that there was heavy rain in the early hours with strong winds.

Even in Malappuram, they were uprooted

In Malappuram district, trees were uprooted in many parts due to heavy rains and strong winds, affecting people’s daily lives. Videos here have also surfaced, in which trees falling on the road can be seen. According to IMD, a low pressure area from Maharashtra to Kerala is expected to receive very heavy rainfall. A release issued by IMD and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority on Friday said that (till July 29), heavy rains are likely to continue for the next five days. From Friday to Sunday, some places in Kerala are expected to have strong winds at a speed of 50 to 60 kmph. There is a low pressure area in the northwest of the West Bengal coast and the Bay of Bengal.
