That incomplete dream of Kalam Saheb could not be completed due to failure in interview
On the death anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
Today is the death anniversary of India’s ‘Missile Man’ and ‘President of the people’ Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He died on 27 July 2015 at Shillong, Meghalaya, when he was addressing students at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). He suffered a heart attack while giving a lecture and died. Today, on the occasion of his death anniversary, he mentions one of his childhood dreams, which remained incomplete.
8 was to be chosen, he was 9th rank
Actually, Dr. Kalam had a dream since childhood to become a pilot and touch the highs of Assam, but his Arju remained incomplete. To fulfill this dream, he took the entrance examination of the Air Force in Dehradun. Passed the exam. This was followed by an interview, but only 8 of the 25 candidates were to be selected and Kalam Saheb was 9th. In such a situation, he did not get selected. This failure disappointed him very much. He has mentioned this in his book “My Journey: Transforming Dreams Into Actions”.
Rishikesh reached Rishikesh returning from Dehradun
Despite his disappointment, he did not lose courage. Returning from Dehradun, he went to Rishikesh and met Swami Shivanand, who helped him understand that destiny had decided something else for him. Swami Shivanand told him, “You have not accepted your destiny, so you are so sad. Accept your current situation and live your life without any fear. When you accept your destiny, you get a new strength.”
The journey to become a ‘missile man’ again started
This meeting gave Kalam Saheb a new direction. He understood that even though he could not become a fighter pilot, he can do a lot for the country in the field of science and engineering. It was here that his journey to become a ‘missile man’ began. He joined the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and later played an important role in India’s missile programs and nuclear tests.
