Which film is this?
The film we are talking about is ‘Gahee’ which was released in 1980. It is a horror thriller and is considered one of the early Bollywood films based on black magic. Directed by Vikas Desai and Aruna Raje, the film was inspired by the Western Horror Cinema ‘The Excellent’. It revolves around a young girl who comes under the influence of supernatural powers and her family is desperate to save her.
What was the story?
Talking about the artists of ‘Gophai’, it included Anant Nag, Shriram Lagoo, Padmini Kolhapuri, Indrani Mukherjee and late Amrish Puri, who played a small role. The specialty of this film was that in which tantric rituals, the influence of ghosts and spiritual conflicts were introduced very well. Which was one of the most scary horror films of that era. Interestingly, after the release of the film, there were stories about it which was surprising how actors and crew members faced mysterious accidents during the shooting, which further increased the fear of the project. It became a Cult classic among fans of horror films and got a rating of 6.9 on IMDB.
When tantrikas warned the manufacturers
During a conversation with Bollywood Crypt, director Aruna Raje said, “While writing the story, she met Tantrikas and magicians. He said that one important thing is that we should not do this work ourselves because we do not know the result. Everyone warned us not to make this film and said that dangerous events will happen to you. We were not superstitious, so we thought that we are just making a film… We made a film, but things got awake. ‘ Aruna further said, ‘She divorced her husband a few years after making depth and her daughter died of cancer at the age of 9. Not only this, soon after release, the audience started complaining to him that he was having strange and scary incidents. For this, he used to ask them and every person associated with this project.
