Author’s note
My book is a climax of my journey as a police officer. This is inspired by my father’s service, who was a rational police officer in the Uttar Pradesh Police Service. My father wrote a book that inspires me even today. His experiences and writing have brought me a sense of duty, perseverance and compassion. I am proud to follow his footsteps and pursue his legacy. I would like to dedicate this book to my late parents (Shri JR Gupta and Mrs. Sushila Gupta), whose courage and conviction keeps inspiring me every day. I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family. My wife, Mrs. Manju Gupta, has been supporting me by providing unbreakable support and encouragement throughout this journey. My children, Ajitesh Gupta and Khushi Gupta have brought immense happiness and light in my life and I am grateful for their presence.
How did the idea of writing a book?
During LLM studies from National Law University in Delhi, NLU was spent in Delhi, my time was really transformational. Meanwhile, I got valuable information about crimes and criminal patterns from ancient times to present in India. This led to the idea of writing a comprehensive book on police system and crime trends. Today I am very excited to share it with all of you.
Investigation of changes in police capabilities
The development of Indian police can be classified in different stages, including the Vedic period, the Islamic period, the British period, and the post-independence era, which is a complete description of its journey from the British colonial rule till date. This book examines the changes in the crimes, public sentiments and police capabilities prevalent over time.
This book provides a subtle understanding of police system
From the analysis of post -independence crime trends to discussion on contemporary challenges, this book provides a subtle understanding of police system in India. I miss the complex and flexible administrative systems present in ancient and medieval India. From Maurya and Gupta Empire to Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire, each period has contributed to the development of our police system. However, it was the British colonial rule, which had a permanent impact on our police system, which made it a means of pressure from the state rather than service to the people.
Today, we have new challenges like violence and terrorism against women from cyber crime and financial fraud in the police system. Our current policing model is tense. It is necessary that we change it to focus on citizens and adopt an active and preventive approach.
