Not a bow … This was the first choice for ‘Raanjhana’, Anand L. Rai was told for this reason
Raanjhana was released in 2013.
When ‘Raanjhana’ was released in 2013, Bollywood got another great love story and the Cult classic. Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor were in the lead role in this film and Abhay Deol also managed to win the hearts of the audience with his acting. The film has been released more than a decade, but it still remains one of the most traditional romantic films of Bollywood and is also a favorite of the audience. Viewers still like to watch ‘Raanjhana’, but do you know that Dhanush was not the first choice for this film. Yes, the film’s director Anand L. Rai himself revealed this and told that a Bollywood superstar was not contacted for the role of Kundan. But after the superstar’s refusal, Dhanush was selected for the role of Kundan.
Dhanush was covered with the role of ‘Kundan’
In an old interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Anand L. Rai spoke about the debut and casting of the film. After the success of ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, Anand L. Rai was eager to make its sequel, but he then listened to his heart and made up his mind to have a deep and more emotional story in front of the audience. This film was ‘Ranjhana’, in which he wanted to cast Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Kundan.
Ranbir Kapoor was Anand L. Rai’s first choice
Highlighting the casting process, Anand L. Rai revealed that Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice for Kundan in Ranjhana. He wanted an actor to keep himself simple for this character. He said- ‘I think Ranbir Kapoor is an actor who keeps himself simple and gets mixed up in the crowd, which is a difficult task. However, he did not have dates at that time. Then we got a bow in search of the lead actor of the film.
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor debuted together
However, if Ranbir Kapoor had agreed to ‘Raanjhana’, it would have been his second film with Sonam Kapoor. The two made their debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Sanwaria’ in 2007, which could not show anything special at the box office. After Sanwaria, the two worked together in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic ‘Sanju’ after nearly 1 decade. Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in this film was highly praised. At the same time, Dhanush will now be seen in another film by Anand L. Rai, in which Kriti Sanon will be in the lead role. The title of this film is ‘Tere Ishq Mein’, which can be released in the end of this year.
