United Airlines Plane ‘Mayday’ Call: An international flight of the United Airlines faced an emergency just minutes after flying. The flight was being operated by the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which left for Munich, Germany from the Washington Dalece Airport. The flight number was UA108. After the take off, when the aircraft reached a height of about 5 thousand feet, then a sudden technical fault was reported in its left engine. Given the seriousness of the situation, the pilots immediately declared ‘Mayday’ (declaration of emergency) after which there was a stir. The incident took place on 25 July 2025.

‘Mayday’ call after flying

‘Mayday’ is an internationally recognized sign that is given when a technical problem occurs in a plane. As soon as the engine malfunction occurred, the pilots of the United Airlines aircraft approached the air traffic controllers (ATCs) and started the process of safely bringing the flight back to the Washington Dalece Airport. According to the flightware website, the aircraft lasted a total of 2 hours 38 minutes in the air. During this time the pilots placed the aircraft in a holding pattern in the northwest region of Washington to gradually and safely take out the fuel. Fuel removal was necessary so that the aircraft is lighter at the time of landing and there is no possibility of any accident.

Landing from this system

When the fuel was removed from the aircraft in required quantity, the aircraft used the instrument landing system (ILS) for landing at the runway 19 center of the Washington Dalce Airport. This system helps pilots to make accurate landing even among bad weather or technical difficulties. Landing was successful but due to engine failure, the aircraft could not move on the runway itself. The aircraft was then removed from the runway with the help of a tug vehicle. It is a matter of relief that no passenger or crew member was injured in this whole incident.

Aircraft is getting technical investigation

In view of the situation, the aircraft has been ground for technical examination immediately. The aircraft is still standing at the Washington Dalece Airport. United Airlines and American aviation officers are investigating this incident thoroughly so that such incidents can be avoided in future
