Coindcx employee Rahul Aggarwal arrested
Bengaluru: The country’s leading cryptocurrency exchange company Coindcx has stolen large cryptocurrency, in which hackers have allegedly rigged about $ 44 million (about Rs 384 crore) from the company’s wallet. The theft came to light on 19 July when Coindcx detected suspicious activity in its system.
According to the FIR lodged by Hardeep Singh, Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs at COINDCX, the hackers first transferred a small test of only 1 USDT at 2:37 am and transferred $ 44 million, after a few hours, the stolen cryptocurrency was transferred to several wallets, which made it difficult to find out.
Company employee arrested
During the investigation, the police found evidence of the possible involvement of internal sources and arrested Rahul Aggarwal, an employee of Coindcx. Sources said that Aggarwal was freelancing using the laptop of the company without permission and he had allegedly earned around Rs 15 lakh in the last one year. Investigators believe that he must have worked together with external hackers to carry out the theft.
Cybercrime teams are now working with forensic experts to track the money trail and recover the stolen cryptocurrency. Rahul Aggarwal has denied involvement in this theft. Rahul Aggarwal, an accused working in this company for the last about 5 years, however, admitted that he was also doing other work with the laptop of the company. A few days ago he received a call from a German number on WhatsApp and he was given some work and said that some files were to be downloaded. The police suspect that with one such link, hackers accessed the confidential data of the company from Rahul’s laptop and then broke the company’s digital wallet and blew Rs 384 crore.
Doubt on North Korean hackers
The pattern investigation has revealed that a team of North Korea hackers may follow it, in the past, this team has carried out such thieves worldwide.
