Why Sudipto Sen is sad even after winning the award
The filmmaker said to Hindustan Times that the film deserved more awards. Sudipto Sen believes that ‘The Kerala Story’ could have won more awards. When asked about his first response when he received the award for Best Director, Sudipto says, “It is a pleasure.” I expected technical awards. I wanted my technicians to be recognized. When a film becomes so big that it is being discussed even after two years of release, then it is definitely technically good. So I hoped that my technicians would get the award. My DOP received the award, but I would have been happy if my writer, my makeup artist and my actress Ada Sharma would also get the award. But, this did not happen and I was a little sad. ‘
Sudipto Sen received the Best Director Award
However, Sudipto also said that whoever found through this film is very happy with him. He further said, ‘But after coming from a simple background and after a struggle of 20-25 years, it is a great honor for the country’s highest award for film direction. This was an overwhelming moment. I have been living in Mumbai for almost 25 years, but I never felt familiar in Bollywood. I do not belong to the cinema of the genre that makes the Mumbai film industry. I am an outsider here. People barely know me here. His recognition in my cinematic journey has never been a big aspect. My audience is very important and their love too.
15 crore film earned 300 crores
‘The Kerala Story’ is about a group of girls from Kerala, which is made radical by ISIS militants. The claims by the producers to call it based on real events created a wave of protests in Kerala, which banned the film in the state and also fought a legal battle. After the award, Sudipto also broke his silence on this and said, ‘You cannot discredit me by calling it a propaganda film. This is his biggest achievement that the film has got so much love. ‘The Kerala Story’ earned more than 300 crores at the box office.
