Questions arose again on the release of Udaipur files, the producers of the film met the Minister of Information Broadcasting
‘Udaipur Files’, which is a crime thriller film based on the murder of Kanhaiyalal Taylor recorded in Udaipur, remains the center of controversy in the film industry. Its producer Amit Jani held a closed room meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on 4 August, in which he hoped the government for a positive decision regarding the release of the film. This was the second time when Amit Jani was called to the ministry on this issue.
He told ANI that he had accepted the cuts that he had recommended earlier and is still ready to follow the mentioned things of the government. The film’s release date was fixed on 8 August 2025 and the producer said that if the government allows the film, the film will be shown in theaters on the same day.
Just before this, the Central Government has withdrawn its previous recommendation, which demanded six major cuts in the film. The government said that now it will listen to all the parties again and will issue a revised order after that. At the same time, the Special Committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved ‘Udaipur Files’ but has put a condition to add a new disclaimer, change the name ‘Nutan Sharma’ and remove the disputed dialogue and scene. The Supreme Court has not yet given final approval for the film release.
Significantly, objections have been taken about the film. The entire matter has also reached the Supreme Court. On July 11, the Delhi High Court stayed the release. But on July 9, the Supreme Court, postponing the hearing, allowed the film to be released. Then, on 16 July, the Supreme Court postponed the hearing till 21 July and has been directed to assess the safety of filmmaker and Kanhaiyalal’s son.
Meanwhile, producer Amit Jani has been provided security by the Central Reserve Police Force. This security has been implemented in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, so that any possible threat to the sensitive subject related to the film can be dealt with.
Udaipur files are based on the murder of Taylor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan in 2022, who was brutally murdered by two people in broad daylight.

Overall, ‘Udaipur files’ is still stuck between legal and administrative complications. While the manufacturers are showing positive stance towards the government’s instructions, the case in the High Courts and the Supreme Court has not yet been completed. The release date of the film is 8 August, for which the final decision will depend on the joint decision of the Central Government and the judiciary.
