The domestic stock market closed down on Tuesday amid Donald Trump’s rhetoric over tariffs on India. At the end of the trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 80,710.25 after a drop of 308.47 points. Similarly, the Nifty 50 also lost 73.20 points to the level of 24,649.55. In today’s session, all the sectoral index except auto were trading in red mark. On Tuesday, there was a decline of up to 0.8 percent in the broad market on Tuesday. About 1708 shares rose in the day -long trading, 2184 shares declined and there was no change in 143 shares.

Loss of more than Rs 2 lakh crore in a day

On August 5, investors lost more than Rs 2 lakh crore in a day, as the total market capitalization of BSE-list companies has come down from Rs 452 lakh crore to about Rs 450 lakh crore.

These major shares backward

The Sensex shares were prominently backward in Adani Ports, Reliance Industries, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Eternal, BEL, HDFC Bank, Power Grid, ITC and Sun Pharmaceutical. However, Titan, Maruti, Trent, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, State Bank of India, L&T, HCL Technologies and NTPC gained an increase in shares.

Rupee more weakened

On Tuesday, the rupee fell 16 paise to close at 87.82 (provisional) against the US dollar. Forex traders said that the rupee is likely to fall further due to the uncertainty of the Indo-US trade agreement affecting the domestic market perception. In the Interbank Forex Exchange Market, the domestic currency opened at 87.95 against the dollar and touched the highest level of 87.75 against the US currency during day trading.

Today’s trend in Asian markets

In the Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closed in positive scope. European markets were trading in green mark. The US markets closed up on Monday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell 1.02 percent to $ 68.06 per barrel.
