New York: Nikki Haley, a Republican party’s Indian leader, has said that America should not spoil its relations with a strong partner like India and should not give exemption to China. He said this amidst the attacks on Delhi on behalf of US President Donald Trump over the fee and the purchase of Russian oil.

What did Nikki Haley say?

Nikki Haley said in a post on ‘X’, “India should not buy oil from Russia. But China, which is an opponent and the biggest buyer of Russian and Iranian oil, is relaxed in tariffs for 90 days. Do not discount China and do not spoil your relations with strong colleagues like India.”

Haley reacted on Trump’s statement

Former South Carolina Governor Haley, Trump’s first presidential tenure, was an US ambassador to the United Nations and became the first Indian to be appointed as cabinet level in US administration. Haley officially announced her candidature for the 2024 presidential election and withdrew from the race in March last year. Haley’s statement came at a time when Trump said on Tuesday that India has not been a good business partner and he will significantly increase the fees on India in the next 24 hours.

Partnership is necessary with India

Nikki Haley is in favor of strong relations between India and America. He believes that a strong partnership with democratic countries like India is necessary to prevent China’s growing influence. Trump has made constant statements on India buying oil from Russia. Apart from this, India has repeatedly defended its energy policy. India says that it buys oil keeping in mind its national interest and cheap prices.
