All the personnel of the area closed in a post on Fort Stewart’s Facebook page were asked to “stay inside, close all the windows and doors and lock.”

5 soldiers injured

The incident occurred on Wednesday on the Army’s Fort Stewart Base located in the state of Georgia, USA. During this, five soldiers were injured in the shootout, the base administration has confirmed this on social media. After the firing, parts of the base were locked, as an active shooter (active attacker) was reported there.

The military base is located about 64 km southwest of the city of Savannah and is the largest army base of the Mississippi River. Thousands of soldiers and their families live here.

6 schools also closed

According to the Army Base, “All the gates of Fort Stewart are currently closed due to the status of the lockdown.” The firing incident took place in the area of 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team, which was shared online by the base administration. Community Superintendent Bryan Perry said that three primary schools on the base have also been kept in lockdown. According to the US Department of Defense, about 1,400 students study in these schools. Apart from this, the Liberty County School System said that three other schools located outside the base have also taken steps like lockdown as caution.
