According to Hindu religious texts, Varalakshmi fast, which falls before the Chaturdashi date of Shravan month and Shravan Purnima, is a special and most important opportunity to worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. This Goddess is one of the forms of Lord Srivishnu’s wife Varalakshmi, Goddess Mahalakshmi.

In the year 2025, Varalakshmi fast will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2025. This fast is observed on the last Friday coming before the full moon of Sawan month.

1. Preparation for the fast: Clean the house and place of worship a day before keeping Varalakshmi fast. Clean the place of worship with Ganga water.
2. Kalash Establishment: Lay red or yellow cloth at a checkpoint. Install the urn on it, filling the rice or water, apply coconut by applying mango leaves.
3. statue of Goddess: Install the idol or picture of Maa Lakshmi (you can also use Varalakshmi mouth too). Decorate them with beautiful clothes, jewelery and flowers.
4. Worship and lesson: Call Mother Lakshmi by lighting a lamp of desi ghee. Recite Varalakshmi Vrat Katha and recite Lakshmi Ashtotar Shatanamavali or Srisukta.
5. Bhog and Aarti: Offer fruits, kheer and sweets to Maa Lakshmi. After this, perform Aarti and distribute the offerings.
6. Fasting of fast: The next day pour the water of the urn in the basil plant or in a holy place. Distribute coconut as offerings.
