Tata Group owned Air India has made a major change in retirement age for its employees. Now the airline pilots will be able to remain in service till the age of 65 years and non-flying staff 60 years. Till now the age of retirement for both classes was 58 years. According to PTI news, this important announcement was made by Air India’s CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson during an internal town hall meeting. However, no official press statement has been issued by the company yet.

Sympathy in policy with Vistara

This decision is considered to be a step taken to make retirement policies uniform after the merger of Air India and Vistara. Already in Vistara, the service of the pilots was 65 years and 60 years for non-flying staff.

The situation regarding cabin crew is not clear

Currently, the retirement age of the cabin crew in Air India is also 58 years. But it is not clear whether this limit has been increased for them as well. Currently, Air India has around 24,000 employees, including about 3,600 pilots and 9,500 cabin crew.

Decision according to DGCA rules

Although the tenure of some pilots was already increased to 65 years, the maximum age limit allowed by DGCA, but now this rule has been permanently implemented.

Vistara merged in November 2024

Significantly, in November 2024, Vistara, which was a joint venture of Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has been merged with Air India. Since that merger, there was dissatisfaction in some pilots of Air India regarding different age of retirement.
