Raksha Bandhan 2025: Today, the festival of Rakshabandhan is being celebrated with pomp across the country. Cyber criminals are also cheating on this sacred festival and cheating on it. Instead of going to shops, people now emphasize more on buying online rakhi, gifts and sweets. Cyber criminals take advantage of this and vacate their bank account. In such a situation, there should be a victim of cyber crime on festive days. According to Cyber Safety Seller ClaudSEK, from fake e-commerce sites to fraudsters have found several ways to steal money.
Fishing message
Scammers send messages like ‘Rakhi Gift delivery’ or ‘exclusive cell coupon’ to your inbox, WhatsApp and SMS. They often contain fraudal links that install malware or steal the bank’s details on clicking.
Fake e-commerce website
Cyber criminals mimic the valid platform and create a website with fraud. Users offer attractive rakhi deals to woo their banking details.
Social media fraud
Scammers also advertise fake rakhi deals on popular social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. The user can be cheated thinking that the platform is valid and can share or pay its financial information.
UPI and gift card scam
Only fraudsters can send fake UPI request or QR code in the name of rakhi gift. In a notable scam, a false promise of a gift card of Rs 5,000 was made under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, causing the victim to reach the fishing sites from where unauthorized UPI paid.
