No planning to declare cow as national animals

The central government has said in the House that there is no plan to declare the cow as a national animal. Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, SP Singh Baghel said this in response to the question of BJP MP Trivendra Singh Rawat from Haridwar.

He said- According to Article 246 (3) of the Constitution, the protection of animals is a matter on which the state legislature has a special right to enact laws.

Baghel said that the central government has implemented the National Gokul Mission since December 2014 to support the steps taken by the states and central ruled states for the promotion, conservation and following cows.

Cow milk in total milk production 53.12%

Giving information about milk production, Baghel said that in 2024, the total milk production of the country in 239.30 million tonnes contributed 53.12 percent, while buffalo milk contributed 43.62 percent.

On Monday, the new Income Tax Bill (No-2) and Taxation Law Amendment Bill-2025 passed in the Lok Sabha amidst an uproar over the allegations of voter verification and theft of votes.

In the Rajya Sabha, 3 bills related to Goa Assembly ST Reservation Bill and Manipur were introduced.

The Union Cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that 4 new semiconductor projects have been approved in the meeting.

6 projects are already approved and today 4 new projects have been approved. Plants will be set up in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab, for which an investment of Rs 4,594 crore will be made.

Vaishnav said that the Union Cabinet has approved Phase-1B of 11.165 km length Lucknow Metro Rail Project. Under this, 12 metro stations will be built and for which approval of Rs 5,801 crore has been given.
