Hachiko soon became an integral part of the family of Hidesaburo. There was a deep and unbreakable relationship between the two.
Hachiko had a unique habit. He used to leave his owner Hidesaburo to Shibuya train station every morning, from where the professor used to go to work after catching the train. In the evening, he used to come back to the station at the same time when the professor’s train reached, so that he could bring them back home.

This series continued happily for many years. But, one day a terrible tragedy came in Hachiko’s life. On May 21, 1925, Professor Hidesaburo Ueno had a cerebral hemorrhage during work and died. He never returned to the station. In the evening that day, Hachiko was waiting for his owner at the station. The train came, passengers landed, but did not appear to be Hidesaburo. From that day to the next 9 years, 9 months and 9 days, Hachiko came to the station at the same time and waited for his beloved owner.

After the death of Hidesaburo, Hachiko was adopted by another family, but Hachiko never stopped waiting for his owner. Station staff and regular passengers recognized him. They started feeding her.
