BJP’s charge on Sonia Gandhi- before getting citizenship, the voter was added to the list
Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retaliated on the Congress and alleged on Wednesday that former Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s name was 45 years ago, even though it was illegally added to the voter list before getting Indian citizenship for some time.
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur claimed that Sonia Gandhi, who was born in 1946 as Sonia Mino in Italy, was named in the voter list from 1980 to 1982. This was a year before his Indian citizenship.
Amit Malviya accused
BJP leader Amit Malviya has also posted a post on social media platform ‘X’. Amit Malviya has allegedly posted a photocopy of an excerpt from the 1980 voter list, in which he said that Sonia Gandhi was named as a voter, even though she had not yet acquired citizenship of India. He said that this entry was a clear violation of the law under which a person must be an Indian citizen to be registered as a voter.
Name removed after uproar
Malaviya claimed that Sonia Gandhi was married to Rajiv Gandhi in 1968 and was named when the Gandhi family lived in the official residence of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said that his name was included during the revision of the voter list for the New Delhi parliamentary constituency before the 1980 Lok Sabha elections. His name was removed from the list after an uproar in 1982.
Malaviya also alleged that his involvement was also cheated after receiving Indian citizenship in 1983. He claimed that the cut-off date was January 1, but Sonia Gandhi got citizenship in April. Meanwhile, Anurag Thakur also attacked Rahul Gandhi in Maharashtra and Karnataka for allegations of voter fraud in Maharashtra and Karnataka last year. He accused the Congress MP of lying and presenting the wrong number.
