The Mahaparva of Shri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the midnight of Rohini Nakshatra on the day of Ashtami of the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada. According to religious beliefs, Lord Krishna was born at 12 o’clock in this date and constellation. But this time Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra are falling on different days. Due to this, there is also confusion. Let’s remove this confusion.

How long will Ashtami date last:

Ashtami Tithi starts- 15 August 2025 at 11:49 pm.

Ashtami Tithi ends- 16 August 2025 at 09:34 pm.

How long will the Rohini Nakshatra be:

Rohini Nakshatra Start- from 04:38 am on 17 August 2025.

Rohini Nakshatra ends- till 03:17 am on 18 August 2025.

Midnight worship time:

15 August Nishith Puja Time- midnight from 12:04 to 12:47.

16 August Nishith Puja Time- midnight from 12:04 to 12:47.

What is Shastramat?

1. There is Rohini Nakshatra after the end of Ashtami Tithi. In this situation, the festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated on the day the Ashtami Tithi is falling.

2. Ashtami Tithi starts from 15 August at 11:49 pm and ends at 16 August at 09:34 pm. In such a situation, taking the ashtami of Udayatithi on August 16 is scriptural because if Ashtami is united (joint), it is omnipotent, since Ashtami Saptami Vidha (United) is on August 15, so it is Sarvartha Tahyaya according to the scripture, while on August 16, Ashtami Tithi is Navami Vidha (Joint) which is adopted on August 16.

3. If the fast of Ashtami is observed, then it will be passed on Navami. According to this, it is best to celebrate Janmashtami on 16 August. In this fast, after the fast and worship of Ashtami, the fast is fulfilled by the Parana of Navami. That is, Paran will be morning on the 17th. Hence Ashtami is valid on 16 August.

4. As far as the question is to be celebrated at midnight, this festival can be celebrated on August 16 in Nishith period. According to Udayatithi, in 2025, people of both Smarta and Vaishnava sect will celebrate the holy festival of Janmashtami on 16 August 2025.
