The Supreme Court today has reserved its order on stray dogs. Earlier on Monday, the apex court ordered that the municipal bodies of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad (Delhi-NCR) were removed from the city and kept at the shelter sites. This decision of the Supreme Court regarding stray dogs has raised a question.

Apart from sterilization, many people have also suggested to adopt stray dogs in these suggestions.

What did people say about adoption? Some important suggestions

  1. Priya, a resident of Ghaziabad, said that the government should be set up to promote the trend of adopting indigenous breed dogs in every city. To run this campaign, the help of dog lovers and NGOs should be taken who are already working on this initiative.
  2. Nitin, a user from Delhi, also supported the initiative to adopt dogs and said, “The government should impose high tax on the purchase of foreign breed dogs. If only one in every 5 house adopes a native breed dog, vaccination and trend them. This can solve the problem of stray dogs.”
  3. Another user Mahendra Jha also supported the initiative to adopt stray dogs as pet dogs. He also insisted on raising awareness about animal welfare, public safety and legal rules through NGOs.
  4. Dr. Avinash Tank suggested to adopt stray dogs and conduct awareness campaign. He said, “Share programs or online campaigns to adopt stray animals, share their stories so that people can get emotionally connected with the potential adopt. People should be educated about the importance of adopt instead of buying pets.”
  5. Rachna Kataria said that this problem can be controlled through public awareness initiative. He supported public participation to adopt these animals, raise them, provide them food.
  6. Rajesh Aggarwal of Bhawanipatna, Odisha gave examples of several countries including Singapore and Romania and emphasized campaigns to adopt such animals. He said, “If the country’s municipalities and the state authority adopt a broad, human policy – which includes sterilization, vaccination, shelter and adoptation – we can reduce the attacks of stray dogs without resorting to cruel measures.”
  7. Deepak Mishra of Noida said, “All animal lovers should adop and serve a dog so that we can perform our duty as a human being and they do not wander helpless.”
  8. Gauri of Dehradun requested to conduct a campaign to adopt dogs and said that their breeders need to be registered.
  9. Siddharth, a resident of Delhi, suggested to register all stray dogs in MCD and NDMC to better control their population and prevent problems. He requested the officials to encourage the campaign to adopt dogs.
