Heavy rain in Pakistan
Peshawar/Islamabad: Heavy rains once again caused havoc in Pakistan. At least 24 people have died and many are said to be missing due to heavy rains in many parts of the country. Officials have given information about this on Friday. Rescue officials said that due to torrential rains on Thursday night, at least 16 people were killed and 8 others were injured in sudden floods and landslides in several districts including Lower Dir, Bajaur and Abbottabad in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 5 people were killed and 4 others, including women and children, were killed when the roof of a house collapsed in Sori Pao in Lower Dir’s plains. Rescue personnel evacuated seven people from the rubble, 5 of which were declared dead.

Officials said the water level of Panjkora river has increased dangerously due to continuous rains. In Bajaur district, there has been widespread devastation due to sudden floods and landslides in Jabri and Salarzai areas. According to local sources, 9 bodies have been recovered so far and 4 injured have been rescued. At least 17 other people are said to be missing. There was a severe flood due to cloudburst in Jabari village, injuring many people. Rescuers immediately reached the spot, recovered 5 bodies and the injured have been rushed to the local hospital after first aid.

District Emergency Officer Amjad Khan of Bajaur is monitoring rescue operations. Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali has confirmed that 9 people have been killed and 2 seriously injured persons have been transferred to Khar Hospital in the Salarzai incident. Officials have advised people to stay in homes in view of the weather. A warning of heavy rain has also been issued in the coming days. (Language)
