Heavy rains in Pakistan and Pok, havoc of helicopters engaged in rescue work
Heavy rains in Pakistan have caused severe havoc.
Peshawar/Islamabad: The torrential rains in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) for the last 36 hours have caused heavy havoc. According to officials, 214 people have lost their lives in this disaster so far, while many have been injured. The most damage has occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where floods and landslides destroy dozens of buildings and block major roads, such as Karakoram Highway and Baltistan Highway.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the most damaged
The sudden flood caused by the rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caused huge havoc. A spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that 198 people died in the last 24 hours, including 14 women and 12 children. Many people are still missing. The maximum number of 92 deaths occurred in Bunar district, while districts like Manshara, Bajaur, Batgram, Lower Dir and Shangla have also been affected. PDMA has warned that till August 21, the process of rain may continue intermittently. The spokesman said that the death toll may increase, as many people are still missing.

Helicopter crashed in rescue work
Two helicopters were deployed for rescue operations, but a helicopter crashed in the monkey tribal district due to inclement weather, killing 2 crew members and 3 relief personnel. Orders have been ordered to set up flood control rooms in all hospitals of the province and ensure availability of medicines and medical equipment.
Flood and landslide in PoK
Floods also wreaked havoc in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). The floods destroyed dozens of houses, several vehicles, schools and health centers. Karakoram Highway and Baltistan highways were blocked at many places. The situation in the Neelam Valley is also serious. Tourists have been evacuated to safe places there. More than 600 tourists camping near Ratti Gali lake have been advised to stay there due to the road being damaged. Floods in Lawat Nala and Jagran Nala shed two bridges, while another bridge was destroyed in Kundal Shahi. Other areas of POK have also caused heavy destruction.
Massive damage from the start of monsoon so far
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the monsoon season, which began in late June, has caused heavy havoc in the entire Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern areas. By Thursday, the death toll had crossed 325, including 142 children. Floods, landslides and displacement have caused heavy damage in especially weak drainage and densely populated areas. Administration and relief teams are working day and night in the affected areas. However, there is difficulties in relief operations due to bad weather and blocking of roads.
