Donald Trump is not a trusted trade partner for India, veteran economist
India After imposing 50 percent of tariffs, veteran economist and Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs of Columbia University has described US President Donald Trump as a “protectionist” and an “incredible trading partner” for India. In an interview to ANI, Jeffrey Sachs stated that the Trump administration’s approach is “clumsy and suicide” for the interests of its foreign policy.
Donald Trump’s policies decided to fail
Jeffrey Sachs said, “I have been saying for a long time don’t trust America. Don’t think that India will replace China in the Global Value Chain. Trump will never let this happen. India will not get to see a huge increase in its American exports, even if it is only China’s replacement.” He said that the policies of the trump are sure to fail. Policies are cursed to fail. These will not improve the US economy. These will isolate America geopolitically. These will strengthen bricks and other groups. ”
Emphasis on India’s need to maintain independent foreign policy
Sachs emphasized the need to maintain India’s independent foreign policy. He said, “India is such a big, so important and such great power. It should say that we do not alliance with America. We have our own relations. We need bilateral relations with China.” He praised India’s diplomatic view in view of the American tariff.
Russia, China and Brazil are the real partners of India
Sachs said, “India is right. Take a deep breath. Don’t do anything dramatic. Don’t condemn too much. But I will personally do what Prime Minister Modi is doing. He is going to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is meeting Russia’s President Putin. He is meeting Brazilian President Lula. By the way, he is the real partner of India.
