Bachh Baras 2025: Govats Dwadashi, popularly known as Bach Baras, will be celebrated on 20 August 2025 this year. This festival is celebrated on the Dwadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Why do Govats celebrate Dwadashi : This festival is mainly observed to express gratitude to the cow and the calf. On this day, mothers fast for the long life, good health and prosperity of their children.
Mythological recognition: There is a popular belief associated with this day that after the birth of Lord Krishna, Mother Yashoda visited and worshiped the cow and the calf on this day. Since then this tradition has been going on. The cow is considered to be the abode of the gods and goddesses, so worship of cow-mother and their calf gives blessings of all the deities.
Farmers’ festival: This festival also holds special significance for the farmers, because cows and bulls are an integral part of their agricultural work. On this day, farmers express their gratitude by serving and worshiping cows and calves.
Fasting rules: People who keep fast on this day do not consume cow’s milk and products made from it like yogurt, cheese, ghee etc. Instead, buffalo milk and things made from it are used. Also, they do not consume food, but only take fruits or fruits.
