The Asia Cup 2025 team selection has once again raised a big controversy. A shocking claim came out of Shreyas Iyer not getting a place. Former Assistant Coach Abhishek Nair says that despite Iyer’s best form, the selectors and head coaches are the reason for not being able to make a place in the ‘choice-dislike’ team.

On Tuesday (August 19), Team India, who was elected for the Asia Cup 2025, surprised a lot of cricket fans and cricket experts, as Shreyas Iyer, who scored a continuous run, neither got a place in the squad nor included in the reserve players. Now there is a shocking claim about this.

Former Assistant Coach Abhishek Nair, who recently removed from the middle of his tenure by the BCCI, made a shocking statement on Star Sports. He says that the real reason behind the exclusion of Iyer is not his form, but the ‘likes and dislikes’ of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.

Nair said that Iyer performed brilliantly in every format from Mumbai to Team India after his return. In the Champions Trophy 2025, he played a key role in India’s victory by scoring the most runs and then took Punjab Kings to the final in IPL 2025. Despite this, his name is not even in the reserve.

Talking about this, Nair further said, “This is a direct message for Iyer that you are not in our scheme of Things. Even if a player’s place is empty, it will not come to you.”
