There was a lot of ruckus on 3 bills in Lok Sabha, opposition torn copies, then what happened … Video
Union Home Minister Amit Shah
There was an uproar in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday when opposition MPs tore copies of three controversial bills presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. These bills make provisions to remove Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers arrested for 30 days from their posts.
After tearing the Bills, the opposition MPs came to the well of the lower house and started shouting slogans. Meanwhile, Amit Shah dismissed the opposition’s allegations that the bills were brought in a hurry. He assured that they would be sent to the Joint Committee of Parliament, where the members of both houses, including the opposition, will get a chance to give their suggestions.
Amit Shah said- We are not so shameless …
The Union Minister said, “We cannot be so shameless that even after facing serious allegations, we should remain in constitutional positions.” Many opposition MPs, including Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM, Manish Tiwari of Congress and KC Venugopal, protested against these Bills and described the proposed law against the constitution and federalism.
The proceedings of the House were adjourned till 3.0 pm amidst the frequent noise. When the proceedings of the House resumed, Amit Shah said that these bills would be sent to the 31 -member Joint Parliamentary Committee, which will submit their report before the next parliamentary session. Due to continuous protest, the House was again postponed till 5.0 pm.
Bills that were introduced
- Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025
- The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty Amendment) Bill 2025
- The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2025
In which context was this bill brought?
The purpose of these Bills is to remove the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister of a state or union territory from the post, if he is arrested or kept in custody in severe criminal charges continuously for 30 days. If any of these are arrested for such crimes for 30 consecutive days, for which at least five years in jail, they will lose their post on the 31st day. The bill has been brought in the context of not resigning from his posts even after the arrest of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Tamil Nadu Minister V. Senthil Balaji.
According to the Bill, “Any minister, who is arrested and detained for committing a crime under a law for 30 consecutive days while holding his post, will be punished for imprisonment of five years or more, he will be removed from his post by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister on the 31st day.”
Opposition told dictatorial law
The opposition described these bills as dictatorship and accused the ruling BJP of trying to convert the country into a police state.
Earlier, in the day, senior Congress leader and MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “I consider it completely dictatorship, because it is against everything. It is to curtain the eyes of the people.”
He further said, “Tomorrow you can put any case on any Chief Minister, get him arrested for 30 days without any fault, and he will not remain the Chief Minister. It is completely unconstitutional, undemocratic and very unfortunate.”
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that the BJP government wants to convert the country into a ‘police state’. He said, “This bill is unconstitutional. Who will arrest the Prime Minister? Overall, the BJP government wants to make our country a police state through these bills. We will oppose them. The BJP is forgetting that power is not always there.”
