Australian Government's travel advisory - 'Leave Israel'

Canberra, October 15 (IANS). The Australian Government has upgraded its travel advisory for Israel and Palestine. People were told not to travel to the area. Along with this, Australian citizens present in Israel were appealed to leave the country.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday night changed the official travel advisory for Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories to the highest warning level, Xinhua news agency reported.

In an update sent via the government’s SmartTraveller service, the department said it now advises Australians ‘not to travel’ to both regions due to the volatile security situation, armed conflict, civil unrest and terrorism.

“If you are in Israel, you should leave until commercial flights are available, border crossings are open, and it is safe to do so,” the update said.

In a statement posted on social media, Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the government is deeply concerned that the security situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories could deteriorate rapidly.

The department advised Australian citizens and permanent residents in the region to register on the Crisis Registered portal.

“The threat of missile and rocket attacks into Israel remains persistent. You should not travel to Israeli border areas with Lebanon. In the event of an attack or other armed conflict, you should go to shelter, local authorities said in the update. “You should follow the advice of the CDC and monitor local media and public safety information updates.”
