Moscow, October 15 (IANS). The Russian Emergencies Ministry on Tuesday said it has successfully rescued a climber from India who fell ill while attempting to climb Mount Elbrus alone.

The 32-year-old climber had faced difficulties at the challenging altitude of 5,200 meters and had not registered his route before the climb, the ministry said.

The rescue operation by the Elbrus High-Mountain Search and Rescue Team of the Russian Emergencies Ministry involved five skilled personnel, who were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the crisis.

The team worked in difficult conditions and carefully evacuated the climber to safety.

He was taken to a mountaineering camp, where he is now receiving medical care and recovering.

Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, is a popular destination for climbers from around the world, but its severe weather conditions and challenging terrain require carefully prepared planning and professional assistance.

The Russian ministry said the incident underlined the important role it plays in protecting life, especially in remote and dangerous areas such as the Caucasus Mountains.

“The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s quick and efficient response highlights their expertise and commitment to the safety of both local and international visitors in the country’s most extreme environments,” the ministry said in a statement.
