Central Government announces 3 Centers of Excellence for AI in Health, Agriculture and Sustainable Cities

New Delhi, October 15 (IANS). The central government on Tuesday announced the setting up of three Centers of Excellence (CoE) for AI in health, agriculture and sustainable cities.

These CoEs will be established between financial year 2023-24 to financial year 2027-28 at a cost of Rs 990 crore. Its objective is to boost the start-up ecosystem in the country.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The three AI-CoEs will emerge as temples of global public good and also as solutions providers to the world.”

The Union Minister further said that AI-CoEs will create a new generation of job creators and wealth creators and set new paradigms for global public good.

Zoho Founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu said that these projects will directly benefit the people of villages, cities and the country.

Vembu said that it is very important to give right opportunities to the country’s talent as they will serve the country in the coming 10 to 20 years.

He said that the CoE will promote several initiatives, create companies, harness talent and create opportunities for our talent pool.

The government has also constituted an apex committee co-chaired by Vembu to monitor the implementation of the initiative.

Earlier, the government had announced the opening of a new National Center of Excellence in the VGC-X (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Realty) sector.

The CoE will be built on the lines of premier institutes like IITs and IIMs. The Central Government will provide world-class infrastructure, state-of-the-art technology and specialized facilities in the CoE, thereby creating a strong talent pool.

Students will get practical knowledge from this. It will be easier for them to get a job after graduation.
