Bhopal, October 16 (IANS). Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath has been less politically active for some time but now there are chances of him becoming active in national politics again. These estimates are being made on the basis of his meeting with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath had moved from national politics to Madhya Pradesh in the year 2018. He was made the state president of the party and Congress won power in the subsequent assembly elections. Congress remained in power for only 15 months, due to mutual infighting, it lost power and BJP returned to power. Since then, Kamal Nath’s circle kept shrinking and at present most of his activism is limited to Chhindwara.
Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath has lost the Lok Sabha election from Chhindwara, while his close friend Kamalesh Shah, who was the MLA from Amarwada, left Congress and joined BJP. In the recently held Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the party did not make any use of Kamal Nath politically. Apart from Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections, by-elections are also going to be held in the coming time. By-elections are to be held in two assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh, Budhni and Vijaypur. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reached Kamal Nath’s residence in Delhi on Tuesday and not only met him but also stayed together for two hours. This meeting is being considered very important politically.
Political experts believe that Kamal Nath’s Chhindwara parliamentary constituency is adjacent to the border of Maharashtra and Kamal Nath has influence and political interference in many areas there. Not only this, Kamal Nath is also close to the industrial houses of Maharashtra. Congress wants to use Kamal Nath’s influence in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and hence Rahul Gandhi has held long discussions with him.
This meeting of Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Nath has created a stir in political circles. At the same time, speculations are being made that Kamal Nath will once again increase his activity in national politics and he can play a big role in the upcoming elections. On the other hand, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who belongs to Madhya Pradesh, has been completely sidelined by the party and he was neither used in the elections of Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana and now the possibility is that he will be used in the elections of Jharkhand and Maharashtra. The party is also going to keep them away.
