Discussions are now shifting to Virat Kohli as the Border Gavaskar Trophy knocks door. Team India will travel to Australia to play BGT. Virat Kohli’s recent form causes concern for some of his followers. But cricket expert Mike Hesson is not worried about Kohli’s underperformance. According to Mike, Kohli was in good touch against the Bangladesh Test series, and his movements were well on pitch.
Mike Hesson said on a show, “I think Virat Kohli is at that stage in his career where he just wants to try and win games for India. And I think that’s a dangerous stage for other sides, because if he’s doing that rather than focusing on numbers, the big scores will come naturally. The ability to hold a tempo in Australia is so important—being able to counterattack and knowing the right moments to do so.”
He added, “From 30 to 60 overs is a key phase. If Kohli is batting at that point, he won’t let the game drift. It’s about finding gaps, hitting gaps, getting ones and twos, and then, if they try and attack him, then he can counterattack.”
“He was in fine touch, and even though he didn’t get big scores against Bangladesh, he looked like he was moving well and getting into good positions. After playing in New Zealand, heading to Australia will suit him, as he thrives in those conditions,” Hesson said.
Virat Kohli has an impressive record against Australia. His iconic 169-run innings in 2014 set an example of all-round batting display. Kohli has scored 1,352 runs against Australia in Test matches, including six centuries and four half-centuries.
Even team India coach Gautam Gambhir not worried about Virat Kohli’s form. He said before the first test match against New Zealand at Bengaluru, “That hunger is what makes him a world-class cricketer. I am sure that he will be hungry to get runs in this series and probably moving forward to Australia as well. He has performed for such a long period of time. He is as hungry as when he made his debut. To now, his hunger is always there.”
