Air India Bomb Threat: Canadian Air Force aircraft has taken 191 passengers of Air India flight from Iqaluit airport to Chicago. The Air India flight had left for Chicago on October 15, 2024, but after receiving a bomb threat on the plane, its route was diverted to Iqaluit.
According to an Air India official, the passengers were transported by a Canadian Air Force aircraft, which took off from Iqaluit at 3:54 pm UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). Now they have also reached Chicago. After receiving a bomb threat, the plane was diverted to Iqaluit. There were 211 passengers including 20 crew members on board the plane. The plane had to wait for more than 18 hours after reaching Iqaluit, after which the passengers were taken to Chicago. The Air India official also said that passengers on Canadian Air Force aircraft could carry only hand carry bags. All his luggage will be taken to Chicago by Air India flight.
Could not arrange accommodation in Iqaluit
Canadian Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan said 211 passengers on the plane were trapped. Despite many efforts, proper arrangements could not be made for them to stay in Iqaluit city. “In consultation with Transportation Minister Anita Anand, and as Minister of Emergency Preparedness, I have committed to using Canadian Air Force resources to reduce pressure on Iqaluit and safely return passengers to their destination in Chicago,” he posted on Twitter. Air India also thanked Iqaluit airport authorities and Canadian authorities for the support given to passengers and the airline.
Air India plane was going to Chicago
Chicago-bound Air India’s Boeing 777-300 ER plane was diverted to a Canadian airport after receiving a bomb threat. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the plane made an emergency landing at Iqaluit and all 211 passengers and crew were disembarked. At the same time, in the last two days, at least 10 Indian planes have received bomb threats and after security checks, nothing suspicious has been found in those planes.
