Yogi government’s emphasis on increasing farmers’ income along with employment generation
Lucknow, October 16: Yogi government has started a new scheme to promote the cultivation of Makhana. Under this, farmers will be given a grant of Rs 40 thousand per hectare. The scheme has been started in 18 districts of the state. In this, work is being done by the Horticulture Department under the innovative program of Integrated Horticulture Development Mission. The objective of the scheme is to increase the income of farmers along with employment generation.
Farmers will have to register
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Export of Yogi Government, Dinesh Pratap Singh said that the unit cost of Makhana cultivation permitted by the department is Rs 80 thousand per hectare. In this, the government will give a grant of 50 percent i.e. 40 thousand rupees. For this, farmers will have to register with the District Horticulture Officer.
Target of 10 hectare Makhana production in identified districts
Under the scheme, a target of 10 hectare Makhana production has been set in each identified district. With this, Makhana will be cultivated in a total of 180 hectares in the state. This scheme is being implemented in Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Ballia, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Mirzapur, Bareilly of Uttar Pradesh. Suitable climate and resources are available for the cultivation of Makhana in these districts. Here the waterlogged conditions in the ponds and low-lying areas are favorable for Makhana production.
