Lucknow, October 16 (IANS). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday demanded from the Election Commission to hold by-elections for Milkipur (reserved) assembly seat of Ayodhya also. A delegation from the party met the Chief Electoral Officer of the state in this regard on Wednesday.

In the letter given by the party, it has been said that by-elections were to be held on 10 seats in the state, but by-elections on nine seats have been announced by the Election Commission. By-election has not been declared for Milkipur seat. It is being told by the Election Commission that a petition related to the election of Milkipur is pending in the Lucknow bench of the High Court.

This petition was filed by Gorakhnath. In this, the affidavit of the winning candidate Awadhesh Prasad was not attested by the notary and its validity has been challenged. BJP has said that the High Court has not passed any stay order or interim order in this matter. Awadhesh Prasad, who was elected from Milkipur seat in 2022, has now been elected MP and has also resigned from Milkipur seat. BJP has said that it is absolutely necessary to hold elections on the seat vacant due to his resignation. Keeping these facts in mind, a demand has been made to the Chief Electoral Officer to hold by-elections on Milkipur (reserved) seat along with the remaining nine seats.

The BJP delegation included State General Secretary Govind Narayan Shukla, Anoop Gupta, Sanjay Rai, Rampratap Chauhan.

The Election Commission has announced the dates for the by-elections on nine assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh. By-elections for these seats will be held on 13 November and the results will be declared on 23 November.
