Siwan: Bihar In Saran and Siwan, 27 people from 12 villages have died due to drinking poisonous liquor, while about 50 people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Two accused have been arrested so far in the case, while five police officers including the Mashrak police station chief have been suspended. According to reports, officials said the victims had consumed locally made liquor, which allegedly contained harmful chemicals.

Regarding the incident, Saran DM Aman Sameer said that efforts are on to identify the deceased. DM Sameer said that two people have been arrested on charges of liquor smuggling. SIT has been formed to investigate suspicious alcohol deaths. According to police sources, the liquor came from Maghar Kaudiya village of Siwan. Ibrahimpur village situated on the border of Siwan and Saran (Chhapra) is 5 km from Maghar Kaudiya.

27 people from 12 different villages of Siwan and Saran have died after drinking poisonous liquor. 49 people have been admitted to different hospitals. According to the report, out of those who have been admitted to hospitals, 5 people have lost their eyesight and have been referred to PMCH. Apart from this, two people from Saran have also lost their eyesight. According to the information, among those who died after drinking poisonous liquor, 23 were from Siwan district, while 4 were from Saran district. At present, 37 victims are undergoing treatment in Siwan Sadar Hospital, while 12 victims are undergoing treatment in Saran Hospital. According to the police, most of the deceased had consumed alcohol at the fair organized in Bhagwanpur Haat. The investigation so far has revealed that the supplier of poisonous liquor is Mithilesh Rai of Damjho village of Lakanbiganj. According to the police, post mortem of 17 people has been conducted in Siwan. It has also been claimed in the report that some people have been cremated secretly.

The series of deaths due to drinking poisonous liquor in 12 villages of Siwan and Saran started two days ago i.e. on Tuesday night. First of all, two people died in Bhagwanpur fair of Siwan. The family members performed his last rites without informing the administration about the matter.

The series of deaths that started on Tuesday evening continued till Wednesday evening. By Wednesday evening, post mortem of 17 people had been conducted at Sadar Hospital in Siwan. However, Siwan DM Mukul Kumar Gupta and SP Amitesh Kumar held a joint press conference regarding the incident and while giving information about the deaths, said that 4 people have died so far. In the press conference, DM Mukul Kumar Gupta told that the investigation is going on. During this time he also told that eight people who were victims of poisonous liquor have been admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Saran DM Aman Sameer also said that the investigation into the deaths is ongoing. He informed about the death of one person and death of another in Mashrak. At the same time, information was given by Siwan SP that after the information about death due to drinking poisonous liquor in liquor banned Bihar, Bhagwanpur Haat police station incharge Ramashankar Sah was put on the line with immediate effect, while two watchmen of Kaudiya were suspended. .

Rajendra Sah, a resident of Mashrak, Saran, told that he had bought liquor from Bhagwanpur Haat. After drinking alcohol, my eyesight started deteriorating. At the same time, Dharmendra Shah, a resident of Ibrahimpur in Saran, told that he had bought liquor from the market at six o’clock on Tuesday evening and drank it. His eyesight deteriorated after drinking alcohol, after which his family admitted him to Sadar Hospital. Shamshad, admitted in Chhapra Sadar Hospital, told before his death that there was a fish party in the village. Had bought liquor from Bhagwanpur Haat for the party and drank it. He had told that many other people also drank alcohol along with him.

Before the Saran and Siwan liquor scandal, a major liquor scandal had also come to light in December 2022, in which 71 people from Saran had died. Maximum 44 people among the dead were residents of Mashrak. Apart from the dead, there were dozens of people who had lost their eyesight.
