New Delhi. Indian Railways has given a big good news to its retired employees before Diwali. Railway Board issued a circular saying that in view of the shortage of employees in the Railways, retired employees will once again be hired on contract basis. The general manager of each zone will have the right to hire retired employees.

The Railway Board, in a circular written to the General Managers of all zones, said that due to the shortage of supervisors and staff, the Railways is facing a lot of problems. In such a situation, Railways has decided to hire its retired employees once again. However, this will be a contract basis job, in which an employee can work only for 2 years or till the age of 65 years (whichever is earlier).

According to the information, they can be given paid leave of 1.5 days every month during the entire period of service. However, leave accumulation in excess of one calendar year will not be allowed nor will it be carried forward on extension of appointment. Additionally, no payment will be made in lieu of the remaining paid leave at the time of termination of the contract.

As per the order of the Railway Board, non-gazetted railway staff who were working in Pay Level 1 to Pay Level 7 at the time of their retirement will be re-hired at the same level. Only the General Manager is going to have this authority. However, before re-hiring, medical fitness of the employees will be done according to their post. Apart from this, his work in the last 5 years of retirement will also be reviewed. During this period of employment, each employee will be given a fixed salary, which will be decided by deducting the pension amount from their last salary. Apart from this, they should not be given any increment, DA, HRA during the entire period of employment.
