Five Indian batsmen did not even open their account
Bengaluru, 17 October (Hindustan Reporter). India’s first innings was reduced to only 46 runs on the second day of the ongoing first Test match against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. For India, Rishabh Pant scored the maximum 20 runs, while five batsmen did not even open the account and three batsmen could not even touch the three-run mark.
After the first day was washed out due to rain, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first on the second day on Thursday.
Although his decision proved wrong, India had a very bad start. On Chinnaswamy’s pitch, the ball of the Kiwi fast bowlers was swinging and also bouncing, due to which the Indian batsmen were facing a lot of trouble.
Tim Southee gave the first blow to India by bowling captain Rohit Sharma (02). After this, Virat Kohli (0) and Sarfaraz Khan could not even open the account. Kohli was sent to the pavilion by William O’Rourke and Sarfaraz by Matt Henry. After this Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal made a small partnership of 21 runs. On the total score of 31, O’Rourke gave the third blow to India by dismissing Jaiswal (13).
After Jaiswal’s dismissal, KL Rahul (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (0) also walked out. Rahul was made his victim by O’Rourke and Jadeja by Matt Henry. India lost 6 wickets for only 34 runs till lunch.
After lunch, Indian batting could not last long and after adding only 12 runs, the remaining 4 batsmen also returned to the pavilion. From India, only Rishabh Pant (20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) could touch double figures, while Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin could not even open the account.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry took 5 wickets, while William O’Rourke took 4 wickets, while Tim Southee got 1 wicket.
